Cherish : The Smith Family : Pismo, California

An afternoon with the growing Smith family along the coast in Pismo, California was such a gift. The sweetness of the siblings, their splendid laughter, the organic blend of shyness and nonstop stories, and the kindness and love of their parents, in one of my favorite places in Pismo, defined our time together. We adventured through meadows, counted ladybugs, climbed curling trees, searched for the perfect shell, ran along the shore, dipped our toes in the shimmering water, and felt the warmth of that magical California golden light.

I’m forever grateful to document days like these, of growing families embracing candid, imperfect moments, honoring the everyday. Thank you, Smith family, for inviting me into your beautiful life for an afternoon.

Love and Light,

Heather

Forever : Brooke and Rob’s Wedding Portrait : Boulder Wedding

Getting Ready Location: Boulderado
Make-up: Emmy Swenson
Alterations: Maggie Evans
Ceremony: Flagstaff Amphitheater
I have so much love for these two. Their union is one that will change the world. This is not something I say lightly. They are amazing individuals but together they are truly exceptional. They love deeply and live compassionately. When you’re in their presence, they both go out of their way to make you feel special, valued and heard. They are love, and together they shine with the brightest light. Brooke’s sister explained the effect their union has on the world around them as a pebble being dropped into a pond and the waves it creates carry love and light into the world. It’s undeniable the power these two have together.
Brooke and Rob’s day was filled with peace, love and a collection of some of the most beautiful souls in all the land. Their ceremony was blessed by a fox that entered and held space through the beginning of the wedding rituals. The clouds billowed and danced above us as we sat at the top of the world at the Sunrise Amphitheater witnessing the beginning of this beautiful union. Their friends and family shared in their ceremony with a special song and sermon, and as Brooke and Rob kissed for the first time as husband and wife, lightening struck in the distance, a serge of energy connecting the earth and sky that seemed to originate from their embrace.
Following the ceremony, Brooke and Rob took some time to just be and take in their vows; protecting, honoring and preserving the sacredness of their union. This is the best thing a couple can do after their ceremony. It’s easy to get caught up in the schedule of the day and move on to the next event. I cannot recommend this enough to anyone getting married, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
The celebration continued at the Rembrandt Yard Art Gallery and everyone danced the night away… and when I say danced, I mean they really danced and to the best variety of music I’ve heard in a long time. We dined on delicious dishes and enjoyed desserts and treats made with love by their family and friends, with a grand finale of the mother-of-the-bride’s famous carrot cake.
This was truly a special wedding to document. I’m blessed to know these two and grateful for their friendship. My heart continues to overflow with the love and light I experienced on this most special of days. Without a doubt their love creates waves and connects the people around them. May we all create such waves.
Love and Light,
Heather

cherish : the gray girls : mama and me portrait

I had the honor of photographing my dear friend Tara before her family moved to Hawaii for a grand adventure. Tara and her husband love Hawaii and were married there, so their affinity of the islands inspired this next chapter of their lives. They sold most of their belongings, put their heirlooms in storage, and moved to the big island, leaving their home here in Colorado. With this in mind, I wanted to photograph the girls in the wide open spaces that run along the plains as they meet the Rocky Mountains. It was a very Colorado day, with bright sunshine and a blustery wind, which added to the magic of this portrait. It was a delight to spend time with Tara’s sweet daughter too and watch her imagination sparkle as she danced through the long grasses with her bunny.

Tara is a real gem and creative soul. She creates the most beautiful dream catchers and floral sculptures too, which can be found on her lovely blog. And beyond all this she’s the most beautiful soul.

Love and Light,
Heather

Cherish: Leila and Family: SLO Family Photographer

This family, especially the amazing mama, is so dear to me. Leila was our Doula for Desmond’s birth and she will forever hold a very special place in my heart. She was there for me in such a fundamental way during such a trying, wild and wondrous time. Her patience, kindness, sense of humor, and earth mama knowledge helped me safely deliver my baby boy. She’s a superhero, rockstar and insanely inspiring mama in my book, and her family is so beautiful and amazing.
Thank you Leila!
Love and Light,
Heather

forever : mandy and ben : napa valley wedding photographer

Mandy and Ben’s wedding was a dream! I got married in wine country in the Central Coast of California and I have a dear place in my heart for winery weddings. There’s something so magical about beginning a marriage in a place where fruit grows with great care and attention, is picked at the peak of the season, blended and used to create beautiful wines. Marriages are so much like fine wine, at the beginning it’s fresh and exciting and as time goes on it just gets better and better. So photographing a wedding at Meg’s Vineyard in Napa Valley really resonated with me. I don’t think Mandy and Ben could have found a more beautiful and intimate setting to begin their marriage.
Mandy and Ben wanted to do a “first look” which is always very special and personal. Doing a first look allows for time to stand still a little longer than usual and for your photographer to document candid moments without rushing to get everyone to the reception. We walked around Meg’s Vineyard grounds and took our time with their bridal portraits. Having adequate time for photos allows me to keep my couples relaxed and happy which is one of my biggest goals. Mandy and Ben’s family and friends met us to do their formal photos before the wedding began, so everyone was fresh and photo ready before growing tired of the warm summer weather.
One of my favorite memories of Mandy and Ben’s wedding was Many’s entrance to the ceremony in a vintage mustang that her father drove. This was a surprise to their friends and family and everyone cheered and got very excited. Their ceremony was so sweet and fun too, just like Mandy and Ben! They have a fun inside joke with their friends where they sneak a framed photo of Clint Eastwood into each other’s homes and parties… and yes this hilarious framed photo made an appearance in their ceremony. Mandy and Ben were completely surprised and shared the greatest laugh together. This was a great way to highlighted a very important element of Mandy and Ben’s relationship, their love of laughing together.
It was an honor to photograph Mandy and Ben’s wedding. I was smiling the whole day and I loved traveling to Napa too!
Love and Light,
Heather

Cherish : The Hubbell Family : Denver Colorado

Holy moly, super sweetness! The Hubbell family is just darling, aren’t they? Their adorable puppy, Gatsby, joined their family, and a week later we took this portrait to remember this special time. I’ve since seen Gatsby and he’s growing so fast and is getting cuter by the day!
Thank you, Hubbell family, for asking me to record your memories with you.
Love and Light,
Heather

Cherish : The Hattig Family : Spring

I’ve had the great honor of photographing the Hattig family a few times a year for the past few years, and for this portrait we decided to adventure to Denver for their photos. They had never been to the Denver Botanic Gardens before, so it was so much fun to share this special place with them. We found a fairy garden, panda forest and monkey land. It was a magical day and visiting the gardens with little ones is seriously the way to go, they see and imagine so much!
Thank you, sweet Hattig family, for always making my heart smile.
Love and Light,
Heather
